TYPES OF RISKS

The health risks generated by the welding processes can be summarized as follows:

• Burns produced by ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) radiation.

• Impact of particles.

• Breathing of toxic gases and particles.

• Noise.

There are two types: 1. PASSIVE and 2. ACTIVE

 

1. PASSIVE PROTECTION

The visor is a mineral glass whose composition has the property of absorbing UV and IR radiation.

They come denominated by their degree of shade: DIN (Europe) or SHADE (USA).

Depending on the welding method and the energy involved, the necessary degree of shadowing is defined. The greater the energy present in the welding, the greater the degree of shadowing will be necessary.

2. ACTIVE PROTECTION

The mask is activated automatically upon detection of the welding arc.

The complete viewfinder is a photosensitive electronic device with LCD technology that, in the absence of a welding arc, behaves like a low protection filter (for example, DIN 4).

When the welding arc is "fired" the viewer detects it and automatically darkens to the selected degree of shadow.

The photosensitive welding masks can usually regulate their degree of shade between 9 and 13.

It is important to be clear that the welding processes are very aggressive and there is always emission of harmful radiation. For this reason, the exposure of the worker without protection does not constitute a potential risk but a safe damage to his health.
